Big steelhead fishing contest. Free, open to the public and no preregistration is required. All anyone has to do is go fish!
20th annual big steelhead contest organized by the Northwest Indiana Steelheaders. The 13 largest steelhead caught over the two days receive gift certificates starting with $100 for first place. The 13th best steelie receives the best prize - a $175 rod and reel outfit. Contest time is12:01 a.m.. July 3 through 4 p.m., July 4. All of Lake Michigan and its tributaries may be fished. Weigh-in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Steelheader's tent on the south side of the Michigan City harbor.
