The Summer Festival Committee announces it’s annual authentic German Oktoberfest to be held in Michigan City, Indiana. On Saturday, October 11th from 11:30am-11:00pm and on Sunday, October 12th, 2008 from 11:30am-6:00pm.
A true Oktoberfest is a celebration of a bountiful harvest and is celebrated with food, drinks, music, and dancing. The food will be prepared by Steve Alt from Michigan City, Indiana. The menu will include ghoulash with spaetzel, brats with sauerkraut, warm German potato salad with bacon, boiled potatoes, frankfurters, German chocolate cake, black forest cake and German brews, wine, and schnapps.
Entertainment Chairman, promises hours of good music provided by Eddie Korosa The Boys From Illinois on Saturday from 12noon-4:30pm followed by Linda Lee Brown The Goldenaires from 6:00pm-11:00pm. On Sunday, Ein Prosit, a 25 piece band with alphorns will close out the festival from 2-6pm. Each band will be playing authentic German music, polka, waltz, and requests. The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc (S.C.A.) will provide dancing demonstrations and medieval “battles” throughout the day on Saturday. There will be prizes and giveaways. The festivities will be held at the Michigan City Senior Center (and attached tent) in Washington Park. There are no parking fees, no entrance fees.
